KENGO KUMA AND ASSOCIATES

INTERNSHIP YEAR 2019

My experience interning at the world-renowned architect firm Kengo Kuma and Associates in Tokyo was nothing short of transformative. I had the opportunity to work on multiple international projects spanning five different countries, each presenting unique challenges and opportunities. My responsibilities included contributing to design concepts, participating in meetings and discussions with clients and team members, preparing and delivering presentations, and creating physical models to convey design ideas. Working alongside talented architects and designers, I gained invaluable insights into the intricate process of conceptualizing and executing architectural projects on a global scale. Collaborating with the team at Kengo Kuma and Associates not only honed my technical skills but also taught me the importance of effective communication, attention to detail, and teamwork in delivering exceptional architectural solutions.

Living in Japan

With its rich architectural heritage and design influence, was an extraordinary experience that deeply impacted my perspective as a designer. The intricate craftsmanship, minimalist aesthetic, and emphasis on harmony with nature were evident in every aspect of daily life, from traditional tea houses to modern skyscrapers. This immersive cultural experience broadened my understanding of design principles and inspired me to incorporate elements of Japanese design philosophy into my own work. Being surrounded by such rich architectural history and contemporary innovation fueled my creativity and challenged me to think outside the box. It was an invaluable opportunity to witness firsthand how architecture can shape the way we experience space and how cultural influences can inform design choices. Overall, my time in Japan and at Kengo Kuma and Associates was an incredibly enriching journey that has left a lasting impact on my approach to architecture and design.
